Thoughts Like Birds is a place for my flighty mind to alight in between more involved writing projects. It’s rookery and roost for stray creative impulses. Thanks for stopping by.

I have an A.M. in Liberal Studies from Duke University, where my collection of essays, “Learning the Language of the Birds,” received the Outstanding Final Project Award. In the early aughts,  I attended the Kenyon Review Writers’ Workshop (fiction), studied modern and post-modern British and Anglo-Irish literature at Exeter College in the Oxford University Summer Programme in Literature, and won third place in the Doris Betts Fiction Prize for my short story, “Aberration of Starlight.”  I also contributed several book reviews to the North Carolina Writers’ Network News and the Independent Weekly.  I’m returning to writing in earnest after a seven-year hiatus.
